Results Of The Last Community Meeting

I was able to attend the last community meeting that happened yesterday and here is what was mostly discussed:

  • The big topic of discussion was the work that is being done on Willow Avenue between Penrose and Sycamore Sts. It seems that there have been a lot of complaints about the way that the traffic is moving in that area so the street improvement is supposed to hopefully take care of that. Commissioner Portner emphasized that the cost of the work is being paid for with government grants.

Trees are also going to be planted when the work is done.

  • Also it was brought up as to why the area on Willow Ave. between Sycamore and Old York Road did not receive any of the new lighting that was installed and the answer was that since there was not enough money to do the whole area the area that was chosen was chosen because it had more residential properties and that there were more "dark" areas that needed to be lighted.

  • There is still yet no buyer for the Temple's Tyler School of Art property.

  • A special celebration is going on at the Shoprite at Cheltenham Mall to mark the completion of their renovation project. This will happen on Wednesday, December 14th at 10:30am
If you are interested in attending any of the future community meetings I will try to keep posting the updated information about them.

What's Going On On Willow Avenue?

Just in case you haven't noticed it (or were not aware of it) there is some major street work being done on Willow Avenue between Penrose and Sycamore.

I asked one of the residents what was going on and he told me that Willow Avenue was being widened to better accomodate the traffic in the area.

I still have yet to confirm this with the township though. But I did want to mention that I will miss some of the trees that were taken down to make way for this "improvement" and I'm specifically thinking about the Cherry Blossom tree that bloomed every April (or so) that was located near the corner of Willow and Cedar Lane

(oh and by the way, since I still see the mailbox in this picture I should also mention that I miss that too!

LaMott - A Homeowner's Dream?

It seems that there is a lot of interest in our little area! Here is an excerpt from some mail that I received about this area:

Dear LaMott Neighbors,

We have getting so many requests for information about this neighborhood that we have decided to put together a newsletter to update everyone.

There are currently five houses on the market in the Lamott neighborhood, with prices ranging from $84,900 to $250,000. Of those, none are under contract.

In the past 6 months, three have sold. They are shown below.

When you are ready to make a move, we know how to use these facts to get the job done quickly. We are still in an active market and interest rates remain amazingly low.

For more information about the real estate market conditions in the neighborhood, please don't hesitate to contact our Realty Office, your Lamott neighborhood professionals....for that "extra effort" you can count on!

Who do you know that we can help?

Here is a list of properties that have sold in our area last year:

  • 1721 W. Cheltenham Ave, Twin 2 story colonial, 3 bedroom, 1-1/2 baths - sold for $135,00

  • 7327 Butcher St, Twin 2 story AirLite, 3 bedrooms, 1 bath - sold for $140,000

  • 1805 Erlen Rd, Twin 2 story StrThru, 3 bedrooms, 2-1/2 baths - sold for $183,237

The LaMott Community Garden May Be In Trouble!

It looks as though our beloved La Mott Community Garden may be in trouble!

The La Mott Community Garden now has a website which is where I found out about this.

For those of you that don't know, the La Mott Community Garden - rather the land that it sits on - is owned by Temple University. That land and the rest of the Temple University's Tlyer School Of Art property is currently up for sale!

At the last community meeting back in June we were informed that there is currently no buyer for the property.

To find out more about what is happening with the La Mott Community Garden, you can visit their website below:

An Old Video Of Temple Students Moving In (Or Are They Moving Out)

Here is a short video that I took a very long time ago. I noticed that it was on my Youtube page but I had not posted it here.

Of course this was taken a very long time ago when there were still students attending Temple's Tyler School of Art. Of course if you have not heard Temple has now moved the students to their campus on Broad Street by Broad and Cecil B. Moore.

The school and the surrounding site are now up for sale - which includes the community garden as well.
